Water Well Drilling 101

Step One: Preliminary Documents
Locate your plot plan.  A plot plan shows your house in relationship to your septic system and other need-to-know features of your property.  If you don't have a plot plan you can obtain one from your town or county municipal building or tax office.

Step Two: Placing the Well
Figure out the best placement of your new well with consideration to the mandatory setbacks set forth by the state and also your future needs.  Together, you and I will figure out the best placement of your well to provide you with the most options for your future plans with the property.  At this point in the process, I have extended conversations with my customers to make sure that we indeed have considered every possible variable and scenario and I understand fully your future water needs.  In addition, I explain the drilling process to you, my method of drilling, and what you can expect from me as a professional.

Step Three: Permitting
After we figure out the best placement for your well, I will then apply for a local permit and a state permit to drill your well.

Step Four: Drilling
Once the necessary permits are obtained, I move the equipment on to your site and drilling begins.  I pride myself in the communication that I have with my customers.  For example, whenever I encounter even a small amount of water, I will stop drilling to call my customer and discuss whether or not to drill deeper to look for more water or to stop.  At this point I will explain what you can and cannot do with your current water supply, and together we will determine the next step.  My customers are kept in the loop.

Step Five: Installing the Pump and Chlorinating the Well
Once you (or Mother Nature) determines that you have enough water, it is time to have the pump installed.  Once the pump is installed, I will chlorinate your well to prepare it for testing.  Your new water can be tested by any one of a number of local water test labs to determine water quality.
